Best fantasy saga ever. That's not entirely fantasy, though.

This fantasy series blew my mind away with how well written it was. Right from the start I could tell that this would be an amazing read for me. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys to read even if they don't normally read fantasy series.

This series may be the best I have ever read. I have read Lord of the Rings, the Foundation series and many series ranked within the top 10 on the Internet Book List, but I think this series takes the cake.

I have never read a series where good is flawed and bad shows it's good side as well as I have seen out of this series. Motivations are spelled out, and the characters seem extremely "human."

There are characters which are good and bad you poll for, and the more you read, the more you find that most of the characters on each side of the line, are likeable.

A Song of Ice and Fire is an excellent fantasy series, to date the best that I have read. The series stands at three (long!) books, and should span 6 or 7 books when finished. The books are written very realistically with not too many fantasy components. The characters are very well writen, and well fleshed out. None of them are good or bad, nothing is black or white, it is all shades of gray just like real life. The cast of charaters is huge and all are important. One of the amazing aspects of the series is it's plotting. There are tons of unexpected plot swings that keep you guessing at what happens next. The story is very dark and gritty and is full of great political court intrigue, mystery and lots of good action. I highly recommend this series to anyone. 10/10

Hmm, this series good, but i really don't think it deseves the rating it has(about 9.4 as i write this). I agree that it is a compelling story, and intelligently written. However, the series fails to capture any feeling of scope. Therefore, the actions of the various characters seem, many times, unimportant and disconnected. Many of the characters are somewhat shallow, especially the, plot-necessary, but highly suspect "crazy" characters. That being said, it is a GOOD series, just not GREAT. I mean c'mon, is it really better than Lord of the Rings?

Basic story of this book series is quite good. But the writer has a passion for jumping back and forth between diffrent characters and create cliffhangers. Which is the one thing i can never tolerate in a book.
I suggest people to stay away from this author.

It is a rare book when good loses and the bad wins. People do not like to read that kind of story. George R. R. Martin has pulled off this kind of story magnificently. You feel as though you are reading a real history. Evil people do win. Evil people are not black. They are gray. Good people lose. They are not white, but gray.
Events do not swirl about 2 or 3 people but dozens/hundreds/thousands of people influence world events. Makes for a lot of work on the writers part, but Martin has given us a wonder in the world of Ice And Fire.

These books drew me in completely. The first one started off a bit slow (the first 100 pages), but after that....WOW!!! The best series I've ever read. Far eclipsing Wheel of Time and the Terry Goodkind books (both series I enjoyed thoroughly). The characters are written so well, and the world becomes a part of you.
The ONLY series of books I've ever glanced ahead in to find out if things were concluded :D
I would definetly recommend these books!

Probably some of the best and most exciting books I've ever read. The series drew me into some addictive state. I finished the books in 1 week, reading into the wee hours of the morning! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone. Be prepared for a very enjoyable read. To sum it up. This book is, heroin for the eyes.

Awesome. Supreme. George R R Martin has supplanted all other Fantasy authors I have read (a lot of em!) as my favorite with this series. He doesn't bog down the story too much and manages to paint some of the most human-like characters I have ever read. Couple that with his graying of the protagonist/antagonist boundaries and you get a series of books that will be hard to match. EVER....
