Comments on Night's Dawn Trilogy

I pretty much have to agree with SillyWabbits comments. You get the impression that the author had no clear idea where he was going toward the end. Finally realising that he had been rambling for far too long he ends everything in the first way that pops into his mind.
My only other gripe about this series is that there are MANY sub stories going on, a few of which hint at interesting ideas regarding the main plot, and then are not discussed every again!!!
All in all though an entertaining read, especially if your in the mood for a good sci-fi.

I got all three books and I read all three books! These books are all over a 1000 pages long, so that should tell you something.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to review theses books. To quote a great man, "It was the best of times and it was the worst of times."

OK the good first :) The 3 books are a good read. This is no-brainer SF action space opera... AND THEN SOME! Lots and lots of very interesting and spectacular ideas! Action, aliens, space battles, high tech toys and a gad zillion other things all crammed into those pages! Good stuff and fun to read. Just don't take this too seriously and you will enjoy it a lot. The books are pretty well written and the characters are painted very well. I liked the way that the characters grow and change with the sweep of the story. Good stuff :)

OK and now the bad. The books kept my interest but I felt that this trilogy could have been A LOT smaller and rambling. For a start I would have cut the second book out completely! It's just filling. OK it was entertaining filling :) But none the less. I feel the books as they go on kinda lose it. The ideas that are built up in the first book are all changed at the authors whims and I felt it was a worse book for it. Lastly, the ending. I had read that the ending was great. I felt it was really crap and was very disappointed. I wont give anything away, STOP reading is you want to know NOTHING...

( VERY small spoiler that wont tell you what or how; but tells you something of the way the author handles the ending )

****
but will tell you that EVERYTHING set up in almost 4000 pages and spanning an ENTIRE galaxy is solved in a simple and stupid way in the last few pages!!!!

( OK YOU CAN OPEN YOUR EYES AGAIN!!! )

To sum up: Good SF space opera. Do I recommend you read it? Yes, I do, but just don't take it too seriously :) It's a bit of fun. Enjoy!
