| Definitely inferior to the Gramarye books. Readers familiar with Stasheff will recognize certain motifs: the ordinary man who discovers magical powers, the outsider whose talents give him special ability to protect the land he finds himself in, the recurring exploration of Catholicism. The setting is a medieval parallel universe where words are power and God (and the devil) are both real. Overall, though, the series isn't very interesting, the first several books are rather repetitive (I never got any further), the characters lack depth, and it's generally, well...rather boring. |
