This is the only collection of Petaja's poetry. Hannes Bok, whose friendship inspired many of these verses, admired Petaja's poetry so much that he drew four illustrations especially for the long narrative work, "Dark Roads." (Each are included in this book, along with many other black and white Bok illustrations.) Petaja's poems include sonnets dedicated to H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, both then still alive to express their admiration. H.P. Lovecraft said of "Lost Dream:" "It is filled with a pervasive charm, imbued with a series of powerful and appropriate images."
