Summary :

Lord Vanity begins in the middle of the 18th century, in the atmosphere of elegance and extravagance, of enlightenment and worldliness, decorum and licentiousness that characterized the age. The year was 1757, and the place luxurious Venice, where lords and ladies played at life and love in an endless round of pleasure, as in a painting by Watteau.

Historical personalities rub shoulders with unforgettable fiction characters. Powdered and bewigged and dressed in dazzling array, it was a society where every indescretion was permitted as long as it was handled discreetly, where pleasure was the aim of life and dullness the only vice.
