Summary (From the publisher):

"The men are spooked, because of Little. They think something big is gonna happen. They're excited. Next thing you know, some of them'll be talking dynamite, if they ain't already. But they got families, too. They don't really want to blow up any mines. You blow up a mine, got no work."

"They hate the Company, though," I said. "I don't think they'd mind blowing up one mine."

Mind? They'd love it! Violence is as American as a shot and a beer. And in Butte, Montana, 1917, everybody drinks that for breakfast-the Company, the miners, and especially the hired agents. The miners have spontaneously walked out after the catastrophic explosion of the Spectator mine, which killed 162 men a month earlier, and when firebrand IWW organizer Frank Little comes to town, the fuse is lit.

Based on historic events, "Go By Go" tells how a rookie Pinkerton operative gets not only his first taste of what violence really means, but also finds that both the sins of the flesh and political moral turpitude must be paid for again and again through the next four decades, privately and publicly, culminating in the morass of the McCarthy-era communist witch-hunts.

"Go By Go" is a brillant recreation of turbulent events, whose reverberations can be felt to the present day.
