Members of the Hudsons Bay Trading Co. travel to Cape Bathurst to found a new trading post. When an earthquake strikes, the traders discover that where they reside, once a part of northern Canada, is now an island of ice adrift in the Arctic ocean. When their only hope for escape, the winter freeze, is shattered by an unusually warm season, the group is forced to struggle for survival on the barren chunk of ice.
