The First Chair
was in the office, behind Scott Jordan's desk. When Jordan walked in, a little man was sitting in it, using the telephone. He hung up fast, swivelled around, and said, "What can I do for you?"

"I'd like to see Scott Jordan," Scott Jordan said.

"That's me," the man said.

The Second Chair
was in Scott Jordan's apartment. When Jordan got home there was a lady sitting in it.

Jordan knew her. He'd seen her the day before. And she hadn't changed much since, except that she was strangled.

The Third Chair
was wired for electricity, and Scott Jordan was after the man who belonged in it.
