Deep midwinter in Connecticut. Widowed fortune-teller Sissy Sawyer is trying to decide whether to join her son in Florida for a winter vacation. But then her cards warn her a terrible thing is going to happen, and she decides to stay.

Meanwhile, a chance meeting brings together two disaffected men, sparking a spree of random shootings.

The Connecticut police are baffled by the killings until Sissy contacts them to say that her cards are predicting the murders and giving her clues to the identity of the killers. Only Sissy's psychic intuition can lead the police to their hiding-place and a final explosive showdown.
