Delcardes, a Valusian noblewoman, wishes to marry a foreigner, but King Kull is more interested in her cat which supposedly has the power of speech. But is everything as it appears? Who is Kathulos, the slave that attends the cat? And what of the death threats of the dread sorcerer, Thulsa Doom?

Written in two stages in 1928, with Howard only adding Thulsa Doom during the second stage, when he also re-titled it to The Cat and the Skull. The story was rejected by Weird Tales and wasn't published until it appeared in King Kull, Lancer (1967). Also appears in:
