In Turkistan a white man tries to find passage to the Plateau of the Winds where he believes there is a large deposit of gold. He is able to hire only one guide, for the locals believe that the winds are living beings, and they reside on the plateau. Moreover, they believe the winds will kill everyone who tries to enter their sacred grounds.
