Summary (From the publisher):

Concealed in a ditch on a hillside late at night, budding journalist, Mark Newman, desperate for a coup that could get him a job on the local paper, is about to give up when a vehicle suddenly arrives. Fearful but determined, Mark follows it on foot to what appears to be a deserted farmhouse, but then is suddenly delivered a blow that knocks him to the ground.

Four days later, DCI Neil Paget is ordered to investigate a missing person, Mark Newman. It transpires that Mark was seen deep in conversation with one Mickey Doyle in the local pub the week before, and now he too is missing, dragged from his caravan by two strange men.

When Mark's van turns up at the bottom of a quarry, Paget becomes convinced that the budding journalist must have stumbled upon a story of greater significance, and danger, than Mark had ever imagined...
