Series: Joe Faraday
(From the publisher):
Buriton Tunnel, just north of Havant. A body is torn apart under the wheels of the first morning train to leave Portsmouth for London. DI Joe Faraday must try to unravel the most gruesome of crime scenes. The body was naked and chained to the rails. Was this a brutal murder or, perhaps even more horrifyingly, a bizarre, grotesquely calculated suicide? There are no clues as to the identity of the dead man so a search of the missing persons list is started.
The man given the task of poring through the list of society's victims? DC Paul Winter, just out the other side of a severe disciplinary dressing-down, the result of the latest in a long series of steps taken over the line. Winter should be happy just to have his job but the thing that really brings a smile to his face is the whiff of a juicy crime and he's just found it. Not the man in the tunnel, but someone else. Someone who's stepped out of a meticulously ordered existence and simply disappeared off the face of the world.
Two men. One dead, one missing. Two men looking for them, both just a little bit lost themselves.
One Under is the story of what happens in the dark. The dark beneath life's bright glitter, the dark in our hearts, the dark that lies beneath love.
