Series: Lois Meade
(From the publisher):
Lois Meade, cleaner and part-time sleuth, opens an office in the neighbouring town of Tresham, and is intrigued to find a number of surprising guests visiting a small shop of dubious reputation opposite.
New business comes her way when she is asked to clean the house of Tresham's pompous and secretive mayor, Howard Jenkinson, but this only arouses Lois's curiosity - especially when the mayor's limousine is seen to collect a package from the shop opposite her office.
Gradually Lois, her daughter Josie, and some of her regular cleaning team uncover a web of deceit, adultery and sex for sale amid the tranquility of rural life. But when seemingly harmless goings-on result in death and murder, it is time for her old admirer, Chief Inspector Hunter Cowgill, to become involved.
True to form, Lois ignores his warnings and finds her own life in danger...
