Four British officials in India gather in the unbearable heat of a Sunday evening. The host is rude and temperamental, not having slept for several days, and the doctor, worried about his physical and mental state, decides to keep an eye on him.

First published in the U.S. in The Boston Herald, 20 July 1890, and in Lippincott’s Magazine, August 1890.
