(From the publisher):
The Time Bandits are six small, amazing creatures--timeless yet always late, ageless yet never young, capable of intercosmic travel yet unable to tie their own shoelaces. When the Supreme Being created the earth, they ran the Trees and Small Shrubs Department. But after designing a particularly rude tree, they are demoted to the Repairs Department, where their work consists of patching holes in space and time that resulted from the universe having been created in only six days. Overcome with greed, the band makes a map of the time holes and, slipping through one, vanishes from the face of history.
Millions of years later, the Time Bandits pop up in the bedroom of an ordinary schoolboy, transforming his hitherto unremarkable life into a desparate race in and out of ten centuries. Pursued by the Supreme Being, who wants his map back, and the Evil Genius, who wants the map for his own nefarious purposes, the band reels through time, matching wits with minor historical figures like Napoleon, Robin Hood, and Agamemnon, before taking refuge on a spanking-new ocean liner on its maiden voyage to the United States--the Titanic. With laughter and dizzy success, brilliant failure and abject terror, the Time Bandits' incredible adventures will fulfill your wildest dreams--and not just the good ones.
