(IBList user synopsis):
When Midwest cattle rancher David Hook receives the news that his teenage son committed suicide in California, he refuses to accept that Chris, a track star and senior class president, would take his own life. After Hook flies to Santa Barbara to confirm it is actually his son's body and to bring it home, he grows more suspicious and returns to California to investigate further. The two witnesses, the beautiful girl who picked Chris hitchhiking and the older woman she lives with, both have ties to ambitious congressional candidate Jack Douglas, and Hook, in his dogged quest for the truth, pushes everyone involved to their breaking points.
