(IBList user synopsis):
George Weaver, who is recovering from a nervous breakdown, has come to Taos, New Mexico for a mental health vacation. When his friend, Luke Ashley, a true crime writer, passes through, he tells George about the Jenny Ames murder case, in which the murderer, Charles Nelson, was never caught. After they drive by the house where Nelson lived and from which he chased Ames with a knife, Weaver decides to rent the place for the summer. Bored, Weaver decides to take Ashley up on his offer to collaborate on an article about the case and starts researching it. When his air-headed wife, Violet, comes to live with him, he conceals his investigation from her. After he discovers a fresh lead, he takes to the road, but his obsession and heavy drinking threaten to shatter both their lives.
