Warweser is set in Berlin in 1938, as synagogues and Jewish shops go up in flames. Yet in a back-room in Potsdam an improvised wedding ceremony unites a Hitler Youth recruit, Mark Warweser, and Jakob Glücksleben, the son of a Jewish shopkeeper. Warweser imagines the development of a forbidden relationship under fascism, from its naive beginnings to its violent end.
