Jonah Dereham is an independent bloodstock agent. He is engaged by a rich American woman to buy a horse for the son of her boyfriend. All goes normally until Jonah is attacked after the purchase and forced to relinquish the horse. It turns out that the attack was only the opening salvo in this story of crooked characters in the world of horse purchasing.
