Ex-champion jockey Sid Halley is an operative for a detective agency; two years previously he had been in a steeplechase accident that left him with a crippled hand and little desire to get on with his life. Still recovering from a gunshot wound, Sid investigates the hostile takeover of a racecourse. The bad guys are quite willing to use brutal methods and Sid finds himself on the receiving end more often than not.
