Will Barrett (of The Last Gentleman) is a widower, retired early from a lucrative law practice, and falling down a lot, sometimes on the golf course. Near the golf course is a secret place Will may go to contemplate the mysteries of his past. Meanwhile Allison is writing escape notes to herself, necessary because memory tends to be absent after the regular weekly E.C.T. session. If recovery is good this time she has plans to be elsewhere before the next one. Where to stay is not a problem, as she is the (disputed) heir to a great deal of the real estate in the vicinity. Allison is a good hoister; Will needs picking up; how odd and yet how fitting they should meet.
