Summary (From the publisher):

At first glance, the Canarys seem to be a perfectly normal family living in Toronto. But a closer look reveals that Gordon, a myopic book editor who cranks out potboilers for a second-rate publishing house, is heartbroken over Al Yothers, a tall, red-headed guy. Gordon's unmarried teenage daughter has given birth to a Joan, whom Doris, Gordon's wife, will pass off as their own (while she also makes passes at the Avon Lady). And the baby Joan, who was dropped on her head at birth, grows into a tiny, mute savant who never leaves her closet, until she uses her astounding musical genius to bring all the Canary family secrets out into the open.
