When Rick Braddock married Hattie Keever, he was an ex-cowhand, ex-actor and professional gambler, a westerner of remarkable versatility. No less versatile was his beautiful bride, so they became the Braddock Detective Agency, rented an office in Denver and were soon working on their first case.

An old rancher feared his wayward daughter had been kidnapped. So did Rick, who set forth to follow her back-trail and do battle with a fine variety of frontier predators. Restless and resourceful, Hattie had to get into the action. And there was action aplenty before Rick broke their first case by luring a ruthless adversary into a gun-fast showdown. But that was showdown number one.

Now he had to rescue the kidnap victim.
