Helen Dexter wanted to know who killed her husband, Harold, and Pinkerton's gave Savage the job. In Calamity, neither Sheriff Ballinger nor his deputy were that interested as they had a gang of robbers to deal with. But then there is a second widow, Mary-Lou, who has a map, possibly of a valuable mine. Now Savage must tangle with the Bloody Hills gang, led by Blackie. As a prisoner of the gang, Savage faces Poison Palmer, a killer who is not quite sane.

It isn't long before a lynch party is on the cards and in a surprise shoot-out all the mysteries are resolved.
