Part: 9

Summary (From the publisher):

Writer Kate Ivory has new neighbours on either side of her terraced house. On one side lives Jeremy Wells, a diffident, charming Oxford academic. On the other live Laura and Edward Foster, who are intent on enjoying every moment of their retirement. None of them seems likely to become embroiled in serious crime, nor to be its victim. So when the Foster's are shot in what looks like a contract killing, the explanation must be a case of mistaken identity.

But Jeremy begins to behave rather oddly. First he leaves dubious messages on Kate's answering machine, then he asks her to take a mysterious package to his colleague at Bartlemas College. And when he insists Kate help him to go into hiding, she asks herself the question: If an unassuming Oxford academic has been leading a double life, is it possible the Foster's did too? Either way, with both of her neighbours out of the picture, it's up to Kate to uncover the truth.
