Joe Lennox feels a secret guilt for the death of his more charismatic brother, but he finds some respite from the awful memory in Vienna. There he meets Paul and India Tate.

India is a fine artist and Paul is a brilliant magician with extraordinary powers. The two of them become an essential part of Joe's life and he finds himself gradually falling in love with India. Inevitably, Paul finds out, and there are tragic consequences. Now Joe has another death on his conscience, and there's another voice calling to him from beyond the grave. And this one can conjure up nightmares . . .
