The world we know is comfortable and predictable, yet it has sharply-defined borders beyond which dwell dark forces defying human comprehension and creatures so terrifying and deadly as to imperil human sanity itself. Many travel into this strange realm by accident and return - if they return - broken and deranged.

But there are others, stamped from a rare heroic mold, who deliberately venture beyond the borders of the known. They seek knowledge, wealth, adventure - or just a challenge worthy of their mettle. Filled with the drive to explore the unknown that has raised the human race up from the primordial slime, they press back the line of demarcation between light and darkness. And even if they are conquered by the inhuman forces they have challenged, they still have shown the power of the human spirit, filled with the courage to explore Beyond the Borders.
