Edge took a riverboat ride upstream from Kansas City, keeping one eye on a very pretty young school-teacher on her way up to Montana and the other on her companion, a man carrying a letter marked for the very personal attention of President Calvin Coolidge.
For the letter gave away details of a planned uprising by the South against Washington's rule - and some of the passengers were ready to kill to prevent it reaching its destination. Unfortunately for them, Edge had no qualms about safeguarding its passage by using his guns, should the need arise.
