Shackled by the name of Slopp, and a second-hand clothes shop as his earliest environment, Karl grows up the favourite of his Jewish mother. From boyhood he has played with theatres, and tried his hand at writing plays. He sets to work seriously, producing Golden Rain, which catches the public fancy and he is launched on a career.
