Chicago, 1943. Linell Wynn and Michael Montgomery, both employees at Cunningham department store, were engaged--that is, until Michael ran off and married Chris, a fellow employee. Now he is back from his honeymoon, and no one seems happy to see him. When he is murdered, Linell becomes a prime suspect. In the process of trying to prove her innocence, Linell finds that a red gemstone holds the key to the murders, for a second corpse is also found.
