Altazar fought his way out of the northern lands, drawn by a voice in the night winds, whispering to him to take the fabled land of Eltabar where the mages had so long ruled. He succeeded, but only with the help of the Kiya Chanda Andee, an evil staff long held in magical bondage. And now the staff holds him, body and promised soul to feed her power.
Freeing the staff has unleashed other, dark magics as well, however. Altazar finds himself facing Tabor, an enemy born of demon and human blood, and one that the Kiya would much rather bond with than a simple human barbarian. When Altazar falls, the demonling prepares a barbarian's son for sacrifice to his own demon father -- and when that doesn't work, all hell breaks loose.
Running before a wave of darkness unleashed at the time of the failed sacrifice, Aubreyan must outrace the refugee humans as he travels across Eltabar to the lands of Ishan, and the elves who ages before had turned their back on mankind -- and who may hold the only magic that can now save the world.
