iblist.com user review

Two Cree brothers -- Champion and Ooneemeetoo Okimasis -- from Manitoba are taken from their family and sent to a Catholic residential school where they are forbidden to speak their language, are forced to adopt Euroamerican names, and are abused by priests.

The title character -- the Fur Queen -- is a shape-shifting trickster figure who watches over the two young men as they pursue their destinies. Based in two cultures and, as a result, not quite fitting into either, the brothers fight to survive.
