Summary
(From the publisher):
The Counterfeiters, published in 1926 when Gide was fifty-seven, shocked many by its honest treatment of homosexuality and the collapse of morality in middle-class France. Its three themes—the problems of morals, the problem of the literary artist, and the problem of society—are strikingly illuminated as the protagonist, a young artist, pursues a search for knowledge in the relationships of his own adolescent relatives.
