Summary

A war-party of Picts have pursued Conan for over a hundred miles. Sheltering in a cave he discover's the hiding place of the 'Treasure of Tranicos', thought lost for a hundred years. On the Pictish coast, the Zingaran exile Count Valenso is joined by rival bucaneers both after the treasure. Conan's arrival at the stockade fuels the rivalries until a demon from the Count's past stirs the Picts to attack.
Rejected by Weird Tales so rewritten as a pirate tale "Swords of the Red Brotherhood" but never published. Manuscript found in 1951 by L. Sprague de Camp who re-wrote it back to a Conan tale called "The Treasure of Tranicos".
First published in Fantasy Magazine dated March 1953 as "The Black Stranger".
