(From the publisher):
How can an impulsive act of following the heart towards true happiness be distinguished from an act of cruelly forcing one's desires on an unwilling victim? The issue is explored through three contemporary yet allegorical characters: Hal Persill, a cynical poet repulsed by hypocrisy who has just fled New York in hopes of returning to his simple, southern roots; Amara Stallart, a happily married preacher's daughter and the shining example of good faith in a small town; and lastly, Anne McNamary, Amara's exiled, iconoclastic older sister who lurks somewhere in the surrounding city. The prose is structured in such a way that we are able to know every detail including the shaky, private thoughts that pour behind a person's steady, created facade.
