(From the publisher):
In 1846 a group of families set out from the farm country outside Springfield, Illinois, led by George Donner, by wagon train for California. The Donner Party, as it came to be known, is now remembered chiefly for the suffering and cannibalism which resulted when the group was trapped in the snow in the Sierras without provisions for the winter. This is the epic poem of the Donner Party.
