Summary
(From the publisher):
Set in a tenth-century Sweden during the reign of Erik the Victorious, the story recounts the poignant adventures of Hjälmdis, a shield-maiden who attempts to prove, by leading a warrior's life of hardship and battle, that it is entirely possible for a daughter to bring joy and pride into the heart of a warrior father whose greatest disappointment in life is not having a son who can "inherit his war weapons and estate."
