A hunter pursues a giant moose into the Valley of the Beasts, sacred to the god Ishtot. There he finds a strange change take place within him.
This story combines Indian beliefs about nature with Blackwood's own pantheistic leanings. The god Ishtot is his creation, but the myth of a guardian spirit which protects the animals is a common one. His Valley of the Beasts clearly draws on the Garden of Eden myth.
