Summary (From the publisher):

According to English law, only the Witan had the legal right to name the next King of England. Repenting of past policy favoring the Normans, King Edward recognizes Harold as his successor. The problem, however, is that William of Normandy contests this appointment.

The hero, Wulf of Steyning, is a young Saxon thane in the service of Earl Harold. As part of Earl Harold's retinue, Wulf assists in the Welsh wars, takes part against the Norsemen at the battle of Stamford Bridge and is with King Harold and the English host at Hastings when William invades England.
