Summary
:
An autobiographical story taking its material from the author's life with her husband, which ended in divorce in 1950. The title refers to the traditional Japanese belief that a pheasant is especially affection towards its young. Its piercing cry has long been said to be a parent bird's anxious call for its child and has provided a metaphor for many poems of parental love.
