IBList user synopsis
The daughter of a nobleman is rescued from a sinking ship by a young man and spends several days at sea alone with him. When he is subsequently sent away by her father, she spends the rest of her life searching for a piece of blue china in a particular shade of blue - the blue she remembered from the days spent at sea.

This is a tale-within-a-tale written as part of her story "The Young Man with the Carnation". It stands on its own, however, and has been published by itself in several anthologies.

Appears in Imperial Messages and Sudden Fiction International.
