Summary (IBList user synopsis):

The Other Side is the only novel by Alfred Kubin, who was primarily a graphic artist. The story was inspired by a series of illustrations begun for Gustav Meyrink's The Golem. Like his art, which tended towards the dark and grotesque, his novel tells of a fantastic dream world which gradually becomes a nightmare. On the invitation of an old school-friend, the narrator travels to the mysterious, decadent dream kingdom of Perle, hidden somewhere deep in Asia, and slowly succumbs to the atmosphere of the place. His visit to this city is also symbolically a journey into the unconscious.
