Summary
(IBList user synopsis):
Satirical utopian novel set in a nuclear wasteland following the Third World War. It is narrated by Charles Henry Winer, a journalist who introduces himself as a great-grandson of Arno Schmidt. He describes the appearance and habits of the strange creatures inhabiting the contaminated American corridor, taking special interest in the centaurs. He also describes the society of the "Egghead Republic", an island of artists and scientists which is strictly divided between the Russians and Americans. The book purports to be a translation from English into German, since in this future world the cultures of Europe no longer exist.
