Emil Kroger is a lonely watchmaker who spends many hours in the darkened upper boxes of a decaying opera house, a mysterious place of ritual and half-hidden liasons, until he finds a lover in his young apprentice, Pablo Gonzales. After the older man's death, Pablo in turn finds himself drawn to this secretive place.
