Luthiel was an elf who wanted nothing more than to enjoy her fifteenth birthday. But on that day strange things start to happen. First, her sister gives her an old and precious gift – stolen from a dangerous sorcerer. Then Luthiel encounters a dark knight bearing black news. Soon Luthiel is drawn into a desperate quest – both to save her own life and that of one she deeply loves. Luthiel must journey, alone and without aid, to the dreaded Vale of Mists. On the way, she confronts werewolves, sorcerers, and giant spiders. Finally, she must come to the Vale and there face the terrible Vyrl – dark and ancient creatures who feed on the blood of elves.
