Summary (From the publisher):

Arthur Schnitzler's long-controversial play Hands Around unfolds in a series of ten scenes, each involving two people who are about to make love. One of the lovers in each scene returns to partner a different lover in the next, until a kind of amorous circle is formed. In each pairing, something emerges of the heartlessness, egotism, and deceit that haunt promiscuity.

Written in the late 1890s, Hands Around, now a theatrical classic, was not performed in public until 1920. Only in the 1950s, when famed director Max Ophüls filmed it as La Ronde, did Schnitzler's play gain wide recognition and acceptance.
