It was William who invented the water race - each competitor had to run with a mouth full of water without swallowing or spitting it out. As William said afterwards, he had no time to think before speaking to Mrs Adolfus Crane. And it was William's idea to put the box of insects under the sofa: how was he to know they would escape during a meeting of Higher Thinkers - with hilarious results?
