The Great King is sick unto death. A Story-teller is called to beguile the weary King and send new hope into his heart.
He tells of the trials of Narayan Lal, who falls in love with the Princess Devala and must prove his worthiness to her protective father. If the gods favor him he will succeed in these trials - otherwise he will die.
