In the far future, insectoid Dronons have invaded the human worlds and threaten to destroy humanity. But the invasion is halted when Maggie Flynn, through ritual combat, becomes the Dronon's Golden Queen. To continue their invasion, they must kill Maggie and name a new Queen. But first they have to find Maggie and her companions, as they careen across the universe, hiding on remote planets.
